Eerie history behind ‘world’s most haunted forest’ drawing parallels to the Bermuda Triangle
However, there is one area in the country that few dare to explore, even for short periods, let alone for the duration required to film a movie—the Hoia Baciu forest.
This notorious forest, situated in Transylvania, is shrouded in legends and stories about the events that have allegedly occurred within its boundaries.
The Hoia Baciu forest is believed to have been haunted for centuries.
Due to numerous reported disappearances, it is often referred to as the ‘Bermuda Triangle of Romania’.
One story tells of a young girl who vanished in the forest, only to reappear years later, unchanged from when she first went missing.
Another tale speaks of a shepherd who entered the forest with 200 sheep and was never seen again.
Individuals who do manage to leave the Hoia Baciu often report unusual symptoms, including nausea, anxiety, and the sensation of being watched.
Some have experienced physical reactions such as severe rashes, headaches, and even burns, according to Earth.
In 1968, a notable incident occurred when military technician Emil Barnea captured a photograph of what he claimed to be a UFO.
At the time, the Communist government had little tolerance for alleged alien sightings, resulting in Barnea losing his job.
Despite this, many continue to question the authenticity of his story, as Barnea had little to gain from fabricating his experience.
Meanwhile, Alex, a Hoia Baciu tour guide, recounted an incident where someone ‘went crazy’ during a forest visit.
“There was a man who went crazy, thinking he’d met a demon,” Alex shared with The Independent.
“He’d just got a massive tattoo of a demon on his chest, to ward off demons.”
Alex also shared a chilling experience involving his colleague: “But the scariest thing happened to my colleague. He once did an extended night tour, one-on-one, with a very morbid man who talked about his obsession with death, how he enjoyed being with people as they die, watching them die. That was a long night for Marius.”
The myriad of unexplained events surrounding the Hoia Baciu forest has led many to suspect that this ancient woodland is indeed haunted.
